Here at GIO, it is our goal to help you take your commercial designs not just from good to great—but from great to extraordinary. And while our role in the design process is to bring you on-trend, sophisticated tile and stone products, along with the full service and quality support your projects deserve, we understand and respect that specifying surfacing solutions is but one component of your multifaceted designs. We see so many beautifully designed building products and accessories that are outside our domain, yet we appreciate their form, function and the contributions they can make to design projects. Here are some of our favorites:
This family of planter pots made by Group Mermelada Design Estudio in Barcelona are light and airy, yet tough enough for offices, healthcare, hospitality, retail, and even schools. The pots are distributed throughout North American exclusively by Magnuson Group.
Constructed of a partially recycled painted steel and aluminum (and completely recyclable post-use) the grouping includes suspended and free-standing planter pots for use indoors or in protected exterior spaces.
Half + Half Door Collection
The Half + Half collection of doors is the result of a collaboration between HOK Product Design and Lualdi, a premier Italian manufacturer of luxury doors, interior furnishings and modular systems.
The ingenious doors in the Half + Half collection have been specifically designed to fit in small spaces, where swing and sliding doors are not feasible. This clever door swings and pivots to open into a “half-in-half-out” position to meet the often unusual needs of architects’ and designers.
This super-wide roller shade by MechoSystems does the job of multiple shade bands without the unsightly seams. But unlike conventional solutions, MagnaShade maintains a low profile. The unique shallow profile can be up to approximately 40 ft. (12m) wide by 20 ft. (6.1m) high.
The stunning range of fireplaces run on bio-fuel, making them clean and environmentally friendly as the flame radiates warmth throughout the room. The designer of Cocoon Fireplaces is Federico Otero, an Industrial and Interactive Designer from Latin America whose contributions to design include a wide spectrum that ranges from lighting, furniture, faucets, and luxury products.
Crash and Bell Suspension Lighting
We love this lighting set from Foscarini. “Crash and Bell” evokes the cymbal and bell in a drum set, complete with a surface treatment and small, concentric grooves similar to their musical inspirations. The two lamps are independent but complementary, both using the same multi-faceted blown glass element resembling vintage glassware which projects beams of fragmented light onto the diffuser’s metal surface and at the same time leaves the naked bulb in full view in a clear reference to the world of industry.
